Porto Maltese

«Porto Maltese» on the Fontanka River embankment, 81, has been serving fish and Mediterranean cuisine for 20 years now. The restaurant's story began in 2002, when two fishermen — one from Malta, the other from Montenegro — decided to open a tavern where the food speaks the language of the sea. Today it has grown into a well-known St. Petersburg restaurant, while keeping the spirit of an old port city. The chefs learned their craft from the fishermen of Budva and the cooks of Tuscany, so the dishes carry a genuine Mediterranean character. One of the menu's highlights is salmon tartare with cucumbers and crème fraîche: fresh salmon is combined with crisp cucumbers, creamy avocado and capers, while red onion adds a light piquant bitterness. The dish is served chilled and conveys the taste of a sea breeze. The interior is designed in the spirit of old ports: 17th-century brick vaults, candlelight and quiet music create the atmosphere of a seaside tavern. The average check at the restaurant is 3,000–6,000 ₽. The venue is easily reached from Sennaya Ploshchad, Spasskaya and Sadovaya metro stations.
