Allcafe Editorial Policy and Standards

PrinciplesStandardsEthicsCorrectionsContact

Allcafe has been a restaurant guide since 2002. We help you decide where to go: we build the catalog, calculate ratings from real guest reviews, and write honest reviews. Below are the principles we work by, our standards, our ethics, and how we handle corrections.

Principles

What we publish, and for whom

A catalog of venues, ratings, critic reviews, restaurant news, curated lists, and event listings — for anyone deciding where to go. We write in plain language and make sure every piece is genuinely useful.

Ratings can't be bought

You can't pay for a spot on a ranking or in a curated list. Ratings are calculated from guest reviews using the same algorithm for every venue, from an independent café to a flagship restaurant.

Independence from venues and advertisers

Editorial decisions aren't influenced by advertisers or venues. Paid content is clearly labeled and kept separate from editorial content. Allcafe's restaurant critic visits venues incognito and pays their own bill.

Real authors

Every editorial piece is credited to a real author with a profile in our "Editorial Team" section. The author and the editorial team are responsible for accuracy, with oversight from the editor-in-chief.

Standards

Where venue data comes from

Addresses, phone numbers, opening hours, menus, and other details come from primary sources: the venues themselves, their official websites, and public sources — and we regularly cross-check them against one another.

Spotted outdated info? It can be corrected: venues can update their listing through the business dashboard, and guests can flag issues using "Report an inaccuracy" on the venue's page.

Reviews and ratings

Only reviews that pass moderation are published. We block and remove fake or manipulated reviews whenever we spot them; venues can respond to reviews officially.

Fact-checking

News and reviews are based on verifiable facts: announcements from the venues themselves, official sources, and our own visits. We don't publish rumors or unverified claims.

Ethics

Honesty with readers

We avoid clickbait and headlines that misrepresent the content. A headline always reflects what the article actually says.

Advertising and labeling

Paid placements and promotional content are always clearly marked. Paid packages give a venue extra features on their profile page but have no effect on ratings or editorial coverage.

Conflicts of interest

Authors don't write about venues they're personally or financially connected to. We don't accept gifts or free visits in exchange for positive coverage.

Corrections

How we fix mistakes

We acknowledge and correct errors quickly. Significant edits to published material are flagged, and venue data is updated as soon as we receive confirmed information.

Found a mistake? Let us know via the contact form or "Report an inaccuracy" on the venue's page. We respond to every report, usually within a few business days.
