Kvartira 44

«Kvartira 44» on Malaya Ordynka is a café serving European and mixed cuisine, set up to look like a real old Moscow apartment with a history of its own. It has kept up the tradition of evening concerts since it opened: musicians play indoors in winter and move out to the open terrace in summer. On Fridays and Saturdays, different acts take the stage: jazz, French chanson, rock and roll, retro hits from old films. On weekdays the atmosphere is kept up by pianists, accordionists, and even a balalaika player — on Thursdays from eight to ten in the evening there's always piano music. The program can include an acoustic cabaret with songs by Edith Piaf and Dalida, a trio playing hits by Mashina Vremeni and Akvarium, and jazz quartets with Dixieland. The place holds together on this combination: the homely setting of an old apartment, live music almost every evening, and a kitchen suited both for dinner with a concert and for a banquet to mark a special occasion.
