Budvar

«Budvar» on Kotelnicheskaya Embankment is Moscow's first Czech beer restaurant, opened in 1994. Before that, the capital's beer establishments were mostly German, and «Budvar» became the first place where Muscovites could try authentic Czech beer. The restaurant got its name in honor of Budweiser Budvar beer, with the approval of the brewery itself — the beer is brought in from České Budějovice. The restaurant is not part of a chain, although many beer halls operate under this name in the Czech Republic, including the establishment at the brewery itself. «Budvar» was built by Czechs — the architect and interior designer was Michaela Zdenková from Prague. Over the years, the restaurant has acquired many antique items from European flea markets: Dutch clocks, copper utensils from France, ceramic tableware from Brno, straw dolls from Prague, wreaths and dried flowers from the Prague shop «Hortenzie». There are also Swiss woven piglets and straw ducks, bought near Gruyères Castle, along with cowbells from the same place. Part of the interior consists of gifts from guests: antique irons, lamps, warmers, pot hooks, a harrow, rakes, wooden spoons and beer mugs. The restaurant's menu features European, Italian, German, and Czech cuisine. The average check is 3,000–6,000 ₽.
