Sever-Metropol

«Sever-Metropol» on Pribrezhnaya Street carries on the work of St. Petersburg's oldest confectionery, which began as a bakery at 44 Nevsky Prospekt and was first mentioned in the 1903 "Ves Peterburg" directory. Back then, people would line up right on the avenue for fresh pastries, and the recipes developed by the confectioners in Soviet times became classics for decades to come. Here they make "Kartoshka" and "Leningradskoye" pastries, "Ptichye Moloko" and "Teatralny" cakes, "Bouchée" buns, almond cookies, and other desserts familiar to many St. Petersburg residents since childhood. The recipes haven't changed over the years, and only natural ingredients are used: fresh chocolate, butter, and real cream. Boiled condensed milk for the desserts is ordered from Mordovia — part of the quality control that every ingredient goes through. The restaurant's cuisine is mixed, but the emphasis is on confectionery — the very heritage that survived the revolution and two world wars and has remained in the memory of several generations of the city's residents.
