Sever-Metropol

«Sever-Metropol» in Gatchina preserves the recipes of St. Petersburg's oldest confectionery production. Its history begins with a bakery-confectionery at 44 Nevsky Prospekt, mentioned in the "Ves Peterburg" yearbook as far back as 1903. Back then, queues for fresh pastries stretched along Nevsky Prospekt, and this production survived two world wars and a revolution, remaining in the memory of several generations of St. Petersburg residents. Here, desserts are made according to Soviet recipes: "Kartoshka" and "Leningradskoye" pastries, "Ptichye Moloko" cake, "Teatralny" cake, "Bouchée" buns, and almond cookies. The work involves natural chocolate, butter, cream, and boiled condensed milk — the latter is ordered from Mordovia, with strict quality control of the ingredients. The establishment is located at 19/40a Sobornaya Street; the cuisine is mixed, with an emphasis on confectionery items. The recipes have remained unchanged for decades — the same cakes, buns, and cookies that many visitors to the city remember from childhood.
