Sever-Metropol

«Sever-Metropol» on Moskovskaya Street, 16 in St. Petersburg is a patisserie with a history that began back in 1903 with a bakery on Nevsky Prospekt, 44. Back then, lines for fresh pastries and desserts stretched along the entire avenue. The production survived two world wars and a revolution, and during the Soviet years, the confectioners here created recipes that became classics for several generations of St. Petersburg residents. Today, «Sever-Metropol» makes the same desserts as decades ago: “Kartoshka” pastries, “Ptichye Moloko” and “Teatralny” cakes, “Bouchée” buns, almond cookies, and “Leningradsky” cake. All the recipes have been kept in their original form, and only natural ingredients are used — fresh chocolate, butter, real cream. Boiled condensed milk for the desserts is ordered separately from Mordovia to preserve the right taste and quality. The kitchen here is mixed, but the focus is specifically on confectionery — the very items tied to the childhood memories of many visitors to the city. Every product undergoes strict quality control before it reaches the counter or the guest’s table.
