«Sever-Metropol» on Pionerskaya Street, 3, is a confectionery with a history that stretches back to pre-revolutionary Petersburg. It all began with a bakery at 44 Nevsky Prospekt, mentioned as far back as the 1903 "Ves Peterburg" directory. Back then, people would line up along the entire avenue for fresh pastries, and the business made it through two world wars and a revolution without losing its recipes. Here they make desserts familiar to every Petersburger since childhood: "Kartoshka" pastries, "Ptichye Moloko," "Leningradsky," and "Teatralny" cakes, "Bouchée" buns, and almond cookies. The recipes for these treats were created back in Soviet times and have remained unchanged ever since — the confectioners use only natural ingredients: real chocolate, butter, and natural cream. Even the boiled condensed milk here is special — it's ordered from Mordovia, with strict quality control. «Sever-Metropol» is not just a confectionery, but a part of the city's history, preserving a taste familiar to several generations of Petersburgers and visitors to St. Petersburg.
