About

Sever-Metropol

«Sever-Metropol» on Savushkina Street, 124, is a bakery-café with St. Petersburg roots. Its history dates back to 1903, when a bakery-confectionery at 44 Nevsky Prospekt was first mentioned in the "Ves Peterburg" yearbook. Back then, people lined up right on Nevsky for fresh pastries, and the business managed to survive wars and revolution, remaining in the memory of several generations of city residents. Today, everything is made according to old Soviet-era recipes: "Kartoshka" pastries, "Ptichye Moloko" and "Teatralny" cakes, "Bouchée" buns, almond cookies, and "Leningradskoye" pastries. Natural ingredients are used in the process — real chocolate, butter, natural cream. Boiled condensed milk for the desserts is ordered separately from Mordovia, with careful attention to the quality of every component. The menu is mixed, but the focus is specifically on confectionery — the very treats tied to the childhood memories of many St. Petersburg residents. The recipes haven't changed in decades, and the taste of the cakes and pastries remains recognizable to those who remember them from Soviet times.
