Sever-Metropol

«Sever-Metropol» on Veteranov Avenue is a pastry shop with a history dating back to the beginning of the last century. The first mention of the establishment appears in the 1903 yearbook «Ves Peterburg» (All of Petersburg), when a bakery-confectionery opened at 44 Nevsky Prospekt. Back then, people lined up for fresh pastries along the entire avenue, and since that time the traditions of St. Petersburg's confectionery craft have not been interrupted here, surviving wars and revolution. Today «Sever-Metropol» bakes according to Soviet-era recipes developed by confectioners over decades. The menu includes the "Kartoshka" pastry, "Leningradsky" cake, "Ptichye Moloko" (Bird's Milk) cake, "Teatralny" cake, "Buche" buns, and almond cookies. All these desserts have been familiar to residents of St. Petersburg since childhood, and the recipes have not changed over the years. Only natural ingredients are used for baking: real chocolate, fresh cream, butter. Boiled condensed milk is ordered from suppliers in Mordovia — this is the only way to preserve that same taste people once lined up for on Nevsky Prospekt.
