Serbish meat and fish

Jovan and Yulia Rasheta — the same team behind the gastrobar «Chayki» — have opened «Serbish meat and fish» on Pestel Street. The place moves away from the classic Serbian kafana look and feels contemporary: huge display windows, massive tabletops, a bar counter in full view of guests, carefully designed lighting, and DJ sets on weekends. Still, the Serbian character hasn't disappeared — it's there in the patterns on the chairs and the waiters' aprons, in the bar stocked with rakija from Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia, and Bulgaria, and, of course, in the food. The kitchen here is meat-focused and hearty, but with an admixture of Dalmatian recipes — hence the fish and seafood on the menu. Guests are served grilled ćevapčići made from minced beef and lamb, pljeskavica in somun flatbread, and Serbian-style tartare — meat chopped with two knives and dressed with a large array of sauces and spices, eaten with bread and butter. There are also mussels in a rich wine sauce, na buzaru style, and a Karađorđeva schnitzel roll filled with kajmak. As for drinks — traditional rakija: slivovitz, williams pear, quince, and apricot, served in signature čokanj bottles. The restaurant is located at 8/36 Pestel Street, St. Petersburg, near Chernyshevskaya metro station. Average check runs from 500 to 3,000 rubles.
