Nkanak

«Nkanak» is a small café-bakery near the Primorskaya metro station, on the Smolenka River embankment. The name translates as "homemade bread," which is key to understanding the place: here they bake authentic Armenian pastries — shoti, matnakash, lavash, lahmajoun, round gata, and khachapuri. The premises fit only three tables, but you can still get a full meal here. Bread and pastries are taken straight from the display case, and for guaranteed freshness it's worth ordering ahead by phone or on the spot. The kitchen combines Armenian, Russian, and European traditions, and the average check doesn't exceed 1000 rubles. The grocery corner with products from Armenia deserves special mention: coffee, cheeses, jams made from eggplant, rose petals, walnuts, and white cherries, cornelian cherry and cherry plum nectars, adjika, grape leaves, and pickled okra. Much here is made by hand — chanakh cheese, basturma, sujuk, and for something sweet, churchkhela and baklava.
