John Doe

«John Doe» on Pestelya Street, 6, near Chernyshevskaya metro station, is a pan-Asian bar with a spicy character. Chili is never spared here, they make their own moonshine, and homemade distillates are launching soon. An average check of 1,000–3,000 rubles means there's no need to rush. The kitchen is run by chef Dmitry Bobylev, who has worked at Tse Fung and Buddha-Bar. The menu features recognizable pan-Asian dishes without clichés: fresh rolls with tuna infused with jasmine aroma and complemented with apple and vegetables, served with peanut sauce. The signature dish is kushiyaki skewers: chicken hearts, liver, tongue with leek, and a beef roll with vegetables. Skewers can be ordered singly or in pairs, and there are also classic options with meat and vegetables. Hot dishes are cooked on the wok and grill, noodles get their own section of the menu, and pad thai with shrimp and chicken has already become a local legend. For dessert, there's house-made ice cream. To go with the food, there's a short wine list by the glass and cocktails with fruity Asian notes. The venue has two rooms: one with sofas for relaxed gatherings, and another for parties, with a disco ball. The interior combines antique furniture with modern elements, neon wraps around a fringe chandelier, and there's plenty of greenery and wall paintings. The bar's art director and co-owner is Petersburg DJ Nikita Buch. On Fridays and Saturdays he hosts vinyl parties: the furniture is cleared away, the music gets louder, and the drinks get stronger.
