Giallo

«Giallo» on Vosstaniya Street, 16, is an Italian restaurant born out of a passion for 1960s and 70s cinema. The name refers to the giallo genre, which blends thriller, detective, horror and erotica, and the visual style of these films became the project's main inspiration. The interior recalls the galleries and boutiques of Milan's Brera district: vintage furniture, chandeliers and decor sourced at European auctions, including Czechoslovak sofas and futuristic wall lamps. Vinyl plays here throughout the day, and part of the record collection exists only in original pressings that have never been digitized. The kitchen doesn't serve classic Italian food but modern comfort food with its own character. Cream of marinated artichokes is served with a tartine toasted in butter. Tomato soup is left with pieces of vegetables rather than blended into a smooth cream. The pasta section of the menu offers three types of ravioli, and the pizza is made Roman-style with thin dough. There are small appetizers, specialties from Italy, and crudo made from various kinds of fish and seafood. The bar menu continues the cinematic theme: cocktails are named after iconic giallo films. Piumo de Cristallo refers to the film "The Bird with the Crystal Plumage," and Body da Baletto is named after "Suspiria," combining the delicacy of strawberry with the smokiness of mezcal. The restaurant operates in St. Petersburg, near the Chernyshevskaya, Ploshchad Vosstaniya and Mayakovskaya metro stations, with an average check of 1,000 to 3,000 rubles.
