About

Kafe Vermishel

«Vermishel'» in Sirius is set up in an unusual way: part of the room operates as a cafeteria with a serving counter, part as a regular restaurant with waiters. There's almost no boundary between the two formats, so at neighboring tables a large family with children might be having farina porridge and syrniki for breakfast, while nearby a couple orders a salmon steak with grilled vegetable salad and a glass of Chablis. Regulars have learned to combine both formats — for example, pairing hot-smoked red mullet with "Mimosa" salad and kalachi bread from the register. The café's strong point is Russian cuisine: the borscht, olivier salad, and beef stroganoff are consistently good. High customer turnover keeps the dishes fresh until late evening, when the woman serving noodle soup at her post is replaced by a DJ. The one caveat: order the shashlik straight off the grill — reheated, it costs the same as freshly made. Coffee isn't the star of the menu here, but the masala tea is worth trying — oddly, it's listed on the menu as "non-alcoholic mulled wine." Among the alcoholic drinks, the draft ale stands out — good quality and reasonably priced compared to the standard lineup. The average check at the café is 1,000 to 3,000 rubles; the address is Sirius, 20 Kramskogo Street.
