About

Yula Pizza

«Yula Pizza» on Oktyabrskaya Street in Nizhny Novgorod was opened by Sergey Ukhanov, co-owner of the burger joint «Salyut» and the noodle bar «Sovok», together with Sergey Tarasov. The interior is assembled from contrasting details: 1970s vintage furniture sits alongside old marble and hundred-year-old wood, the kitchen opens directly into the dining room, and the walls are left whitewashed. The star of the menu is Neapolitan pizza — nearly twenty varieties are made in a wood-fired oven heated to almost 500 degrees. Alongside the classic recipes, there are signature options with scallop, beef confit, oyster mushrooms or shrimp, as well as a dessert pizza. On weekends, pizzas with special, non-permanent flavors are added to the menu. Guests also have access to a full menu: bruschettas, edible aperitifs, farmhouse cheeses, soups, salads, mussels, and sea bream. Two separate rooms house a wine bar — the list was put together by sommelier Roman Kirillov and includes biodynamic wines from the Loire Valley, western Germany, New Zealand, and California. The bar is open Wednesday through Sunday from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m., and on weekends until midnight. «Yula» also hosts wine evenings, gastro-lectures, musical events ranging from jazz to DJ sets, literary readings, exhibitions, and performances.
