Sizyy Olen

«Sizyy Olen» is tucked into an archway next to «Mir pitstsy», on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya, not far from Gorkovskaya. Blue walls and humorous posters set the tone right away — here they love beer and don't take themselves too seriously. There are nine taps, all Russian craft: coconut porter, a piña colada–flavored milkshake beer, lemon gose with Dead Sea salt. A separate spot in the lineup goes to varieties from small Nizhny Novgorod breweries. In the fridge it's worth searching for bottles of St. Petersburg cider — with strawberry purée and mint, with grapefruit and rosemary, with lime and ginger. The selection here doesn't stand still: once one cider runs out, another, no less interesting, arrives. There aren't many snacks at the bar, but they're chosen wisely: nachos, nuggets, fries, and dried meat — from turkey to venison. «Sizyy Olen» was opened by Grigory Matasov, known for Nizhny Novgorod's first falafel spot, Noot, and for organizing Restaurant Days.
