Simit House

«Simit House» is a café-bakery near Prospekt Mira and Dostoevskaya metro stations, seating 40. Half the menu features familiar international dishes, while the other half takes you straight to Istanbul. They genuinely make Turkish baked goods here: sesame simits, açma (not the Georgian kind, but a fluffy sweet bun with salted curd cheese, cheese, or potato), and poğaça. From 8 a.m. they serve a full Turkish breakfast: menemen with sujuk sausage, olives, cucumbers, tomatoes, an assortment of cheeses, Nutella, honey, jam, simit, a piece of börek pie, and two glasses of Turkish tea. On weekdays breakfast runs until noon, on weekends until 4 p.m., and if you ask nicely, they may serve it even later. The menu includes several types of pide, from plain lahmacun to one with sujuk and cheese, red lentil soup, grilled köfte, Iskender kebab, gözleme, and sütlaç for dessert. The tea is brewed strong, as is traditional in Turkey. Children are treated with particular warmth: each child gets a balloon and is allowed to play without strict limits.
