La Virgen

«La Virgen» was opened by the team behind the bar Underdog, known for its American street food, and this time they took on Mexican cuisine. The place is located in a basement on Lubyansky Proyezd and occupies two rooms with a bold interior: there's an altar with the Virgin of Guadalupe, cartoonish depictions of the devil, and a drinking water tap right in the dining room. Chef Marco Ferreira, whose dishes have already won over guests of «Inostrantsy», «Turisty» and Rick's, is in charge of the kitchen. «La Virgen» is steering toward a traditional taquería: the menu features various types of tacos and ceviche. The bar deserves special attention — they pour two kinds of michelada, made with red and green tomatoes and spices, a sort of Mexican Bloody Mary with beer. For those who don't drink alcohol, the bar offers tepache, a sweet-and-sour pineapple kvass that's great for cooling off in the heat. The place is located near Lubyanka, Kuznetsky Most, and Kitay-gorod metro stations, at Lubyansky Proyezd, 5, building 1. The average check here is 500 rubles.
