Khmeli Suneli

«Khmeli Suneli», located on Prospekt Lenina, 69, near the Dinamo and Ploshchad 1905 Goda metro stations, transports guests into the atmosphere of old Tbilisi. Handwoven rugs hang on the railings, shelves are lined with clay pots, the walls are decorated with old photographs of mustached Georgian men, and vintage wine bottles line the staircase. The restaurant's cuisine is Georgian and Caucasian: dolma and khachapuri, khinkali and shashlik, suluguni cheese made specially for the restaurant by a farmer the owners know personally, and matsoni with forest berries. Real Georgian wines — thick and tart — are served at the table. In winter, the dining rooms are warmed by the heat of the ovens where flatbreads and khachapuri are baked; in summer, life moves to the veranda with wicker furniture, shaded by tree canopies, where homemade lemonades are served.
