BUNIN BAR

«BUNIN BAR» in Yekaterinburg on Malysheva Street operates as a speakeasy, harking back to American bars of the Prohibition era. It's not easy to find: the place hides deep inside the «Gryaznye tantsy» club in the «Vysotskiy» business center, near the Ploshchad 1905 Goda metro station. The bar is named after the writer Ivan Bunin, author of "Dark Avenues" and "Cursed Days" — or so claims the venue's creator, Ilya Bunin, a man with a theatrical past and an eccentric character. The bar has its own motto: anything goes that isn't forbidden by the Criminal Code and common sense. Guests bring their own food and cook it themselves in the kitchen, which has a stove and a ZIL refrigerator, mix cocktails at the bar counter, play the piano, and read poetry. The cocktail menu is built around images from Western literature: drink names reference characters from "Pride and Prejudice," "Gone with the Wind," and "The Great Gatsby." The bar's kitchen isn't fully up and running yet — food options are limited to a few types of sandwiches.
